Some of our makers will be in store this Saturday from 1pm until 3pm to answer any questions, discuss the making process or just have a chat. *You  must be a full time professional Designer Maker.

*You Design and make your own product to a high standard.

*You are based in Co.Kilkenny

* Your have been in business for a minimum of 2 years.

*You are proposed and seconded by two existing members of MADE in kilkenny.

Ok, so we know Christmas is still a little way off but we cannot contain the excitement, as preparations are in full-swing for the launch of this year’s pop-up shop in a couple of week’s time!

Due to open on Saturday 1st December on John Street, next to Gardenia, we are lucky to be surrounded by such an abundance of great shops and restaurants…

MADE by hand exhibition is open in Butler house and promises not to disappoint.  There is a lovely selection of new work from the MADE members and you can read the storyboards which give a little more insight into the process behind making each piece.

The images above are of our pop up shop also located in Butler House so for this week only you can have a range of work available from both Butler House and until the end of the month from our shop in GOODS on high street….

Its that time of year again and our fourth Arts Festival exhibition is taking place this year in the usual venue ….Butler House. It will all be new work on show and we will also have a pop up shop in Butler House as well as our outlet in GOODS high st. So no excuses this year when you are strolling around Kilkenny for the festival you cant miss MADE in kilkenny. All welcome to the opening on Friday evening 6.30

Even in the rain, the village of Graignamanagh was still picturesque.  I headed up to Cushendale Woollen Mill and was lucky enough to have the grand tour by Philip and Mary Cushen and watched the dedicated team working…

Steeped in history, it is encouraging to know that since 1204BC the mill has been working to produce wool.  The family and the team are passionate about creating excellent quality products and Philip, was kind enough to show me around the mill. 

The pure, local water from the stream is a key resource and provides water for dying the Cushendale textiles.  Philip tells me about the dying process and that all the colours are produced by Cushendale.  He believes that this is one of the most, elements to the finished product.   

It is wonderful the way the colour shades have names; Foxglove, Apple Blossom and ooh, what’s this…I am fortunate enough to watch a rug being made, at just the right time…

Whether buying woollen items to wear, as a gift or, to use around the home, colour must play a focal part and this is where Cushendale truly succeed.  Through years of experience and a careful consideration of market and trend, the mill produces an array of colour to suit every style. 

WHAT’S NEXT: Philip, Mary and the team are working hard as ever and as Kilkenny Arts Festival vast approaches, Philip is enthusiastic to show Cushendale products, that have been specifically designed and made for the event.  Can’t wait!

Preparation for this year’s Graduate Exhibition is underway and I was lucky enough to spare a few moments of Gus Mabelson’s time.  His instantly recognisable ceramics are aesthetically appealing & functional but today the main focus was on his student’s work.

Twelve exceptionally talented students, currently working very hard on their final pieces, Gus has spent the last 2 years mentoring them throughout the process, as well as working hard on his own pieces too.  

The Crafts Council of Ireland’s (CCoI) Ceramic Design and Skills Training Course is a unique training programme, which is designed to give students practical skills to develop career within the ceramics industry.
